PAINTING SYSTEM: Reduce 1 part by volume Illinois Automotive Lacquer topcoat to 2 parts by volume Illinois Lacquer Thinner. For wood application, sand wood surface until free from rough edges. Remove all sanding dust with clean cloth then hammer and punch off all nail heads. Apply one coat of Illinois Lacquer Primer Surfacer then apply Illinois Auto Lacquer Putty for surface imperfections. Apply putty with a putty knife, working fairly rapidly to prevent rolling due to its fast drying characteristics. Allow to dry then sand and clean before spot priming puttied areas. Topcoat with 2 or more coats of Illinois Automotive Lacquer paint. For metal surfaces, apply Guilder Rust Converter to remove rust. Use Illinois Lacquer Primer Surfacer as first coating. For topcoat, apply 2 to 3 coats of Illinois Automotive Lacquer Paint.

Surface Preparation

For maximum paint performance, surfaces to be painted must be dry and in sound condition, free from loose dirt, dust, oil, grease and other foreign matter. These conditions must be ensured before starting paint application.
